The Bible is full of beloved stories. Passages from it are often read at weddings, stories from it are often told to children, and its themes have inspired countless modern books and movies, from "The Chronicles of Narnia" to "The Matrix." According to Mark A. Noll, writing for Houston Christian University: "The Bible has been a permanent fixture in American culture since the beginning of the European settlement of North America."

The Holy Bible is probably the most discussed, debated, and argued book in the history of humankind, by both people who believe what it says and those who decidedly do not. But even if you believe wholeheartedly the Bible is 100 percent the inspired word of God, the fact is the books were not all written at the same time and human beings–divinely inspired or not–had to decide which of the innumerable works claiming to be scripture actually carried divine authority and would make the final cut. Some books made it more easily than others, and even today churches can't agree on which books are the real deal.
The Christian Bible is a complex text, which was written and collated in a very different historical period within a drastically different cultural and social milieu, notes The Torah.com. It was time to really make this thing legit. Time to make a clear and universal statement of faith. The church was in danger, or so the emperor and the bishops believed, and radical and passionate action was needed to save it.
