Photo @pedromcbride. A dugout canoe on a calm #Amazon River, snaking through Peru on its 4000 mile march to the Atlantic — one of my most memorable journeys with the late writer Matt Power, a regular contributor to @natgeo #adventure. Matt tragically passed last month chasing the #Nile River in Uganda. To learn more about this gifted writer and soul and the dangers of #heatstroke, see Brad Wiener’s piece. @thephotosociety @natgeocreative

Photo by @pedromcbride. Kenya's Paradise Lake, once the crown jewel of Marsabit National Park, is now a dry shadow of its former self. This densely forested mountain park 560 km north of Nairobi, has long been an island of moisture in a sea of #African aridity, attracting exotic birdlife and populations of endangered Grevy's zebra, lion, leopard, buffalo, African elephant and more. In recent years, however, increased ground #water drilling (most of it illegal) has quickly transformed this forest oasis into a muddy bog stressing both wildlife and human populations. #onassignment @thephotosociety @natgeocreative #kenya #shortage #aerial
