Ten new schools will be built to meet growing student demand in southeast Queensland, while the state government considers closing nine in the same area due to low attendance rates. Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek has announced 10 news schools will be built in Brisbane, Ipswich and the Gold Coast ‘‘growth hot spots’’. The schools, expected to open in 2015, will cater for up to 10,800 students collectively and employ 540 teachers, Mr Langbroek said.
