12 Fruit Desserts to Make With Your Farmers Market Haul

When it comes to fruit desserts, there really are no rules. Toss peaches into pie, blend blueberries into ice cream. Arrange cherries in cobbler, layer plums in a crumble. (Should I stop? You get it.) It’s clear that you don’t need a celebration to make a dessert; in fact, most desserts themselves are reason to celebrate. Whether I'm feeling berries, citrus, or stone fruit, I've always got room for a fruit dessert.

    Peach Bostock

    • Prep time 30 minutes • Cook time 1 hour • Serves 8 Author Notes The bread used for bostock should be oven-dried, which is not at all the same as stale. Stale bread is hard. Dried bread is crisp, with a marked propensity to absorb whatever you throw at it. Use the best brioche you can find for this recipe. …

    • Prep time 20 hours 30 minutes • Cook time 15 minutes • Serves 8 to 10 Author Notes By the middle of August, we couldn’t remember how it felt not to stick together. Knees and elbows pasted. Key Lime Cake

    Key Lime Cake

    • Prep time 5 hours • Cook time 45 minutes • Serves 8 to 10 Author Notes I don’t know if you’ve ever squeezed a Key lime. It’s a pain in the ass, but the flavor hiding in the modicum of juice you’ll recover more than makes up for the struggle. You know what it tastes like; I know you know the pie. It’s …

    Peanut Butter & Jelly Cake

    Peanut Butter & Jelly Cake

    • Prep time 35 minutes • Cook time 25 minutes • Serves 12 Author Notes I love peanut butter. It’s what I would take to a desert island, on a road trip, and possibly to my grave. Crème Fraîche Plum Cake with Plum Caramel

Crème Fraîche Plum Cake with Plum Caramel

    • Makes one 9-inch cake Author Notes The additions of crème fraîche, semolina flour, and thick fruit slices are not what make this cake—which comes from The A.O.C. Cookbook by Suzanne Goin—special. No, its real signature is the "plum caramel," which is made by puréeing plums (this will feel like a …

Vegan White Peach Mug Cobbler With Cardamom

Vegan White Peach Mug Cobbler With Cardamom

    • Prep time 2 minutes • Cook time 3 minutes • Serves 1 Author Notes I'll be honest: I didn't intend for this peach cobbler recipe to 1) germinate in a coffee mug, 2) take just five minutes to make, or 3) be totally, unequivocally vegan. But it is all of those things. As I tested variations on what I deemed …

    Caramelized Cherry Clafoutis Recipe

    Caramelized Cherry Clafoutis Recipe

    • Prep time 15 minutes • Cook time 50 minutes • Makes 9x13 clafoutis Author Notes The French believe that leaving the pits in the cherries makes the clafoutis more flavorful. It’s certainly easier on the cook, and provides lots of opportunity for playful pit-spitting and juicy red fingers when you serve the …

    Roasted Cherry Sorbet

    Roasted Cherry Sorbet

    • Makes 1 quart Author Notes If you’re a fan of cherries in frozen form, then go turn on your oven! The extra step of roasting pays huge dividends since it intensifies the flavor and color of the cherries. By all means use the best cherries you can lay your hands on, but I can attest that even …
