We Need Conversations About Black Cuisine: Curated by Tastemaker K.J. Kearney
In my opinion, the reason Black food has not been elevated in the same way that other cuisines have is a lack of understanding. Is soul food delicious? Absolutely! But does that mean there isn't room for a healthy discussion on whether Black people should be eating it? Do Black people love cognac? Yup! But does that mean we shouldn't examine the reasons why? With that in mind, I wanted to share a mix of written words and videos that show a variety of opinions on Black cuisine and culture.

K.J. Kearney is from the Great State of Charleston (South Carolina) and is the founder of @BlackFoodFridays, an initiative that encourages people to support Black owned food and beverage businesses each and every Friday. Established in April 2020, the Black Food Fridays Instagram and TikTok accounts have been featured or mentioned in publications such as the New York Times, Mic.com, the Today Show, Good Morning America, and Condé Nast Traveller UK.
