Apparently Maria Antoinette never said “Let them eat cake”. It’s highly unlikely that the intelligent, well read and generous queen would ever say such a thing. She was foward thinking and supported Chevalier de Saint-Georges in his bid to became the first black director of the Paris Opera House. Why then was she so unpopular? Her lavish lifestyle led to the French revolution and her subsequent head roll. Here’s a storyboard with a roundup of articles. I hope to shed some light.
