'Sonic Mania' Is Confirmed For Release This August And Is Priced Very Reasonably

Following the leak that Sonic Mania would be out this August, Sega has confirmed that the game will be released on August 15.
While Sonic Mania is coming to all manner of gaming platforms, the pricing is something I do want to highlight here. Not least, because we’ve recently had Ultra Street Fighter II released on the Nintendo Switch and that arguably costs double what it needs to.
So to have Sega confirm that Sonic Mania is not only being released on August 15 but will also cost a very reasonable $19.99 that is something I am very happy to see.
Now, this price is for the standard digital only release but if you want to get the physical collector’s edition that will cost a fair bit more. However, you do get quite a few worthwhile goodies so again, Sega isn’t trying to price gouge here.
Since Sonic Mania was announced, I’ve been relieved to see Sega go back to the series’ roots in such a bold and confident way. Like many, I grew up on the original Mega Drive Sonic the Hedgehog and to have a 2D spiritual successor developed for modern gaming hardware is something I cannot enthuse enough about.
While Sega has been given a fair amount of entirely justifiable criticism over its treatment of Sonic over the years, I fully expect Sonic Mania to finally appease the craving fans have for this excellent series.
Out of all the platforms Sonic Mania will be released on, I am definitely getting the Switch version, as I reckon this is a game I will want to play pretty much everywhere.
Sonic Mania is released for PS4, PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on August 15. The digital release is priced at $19.99, whereas the physical collector’s edition will cost $69.99.
