Marbles, Typographic experiment If you played with marbles as a child you’ll instantly recognised the inspiration behind Mark Richardson’s recent type experiments. Founder of design studio, Superfried, he describes the process Whilst developing a typographic style for a US client, this route was relegated from the process. Initially it started as 3D numbers [see 100 visual, above] with a slightly organic centre. This idea still had potential, so I took everything back to flat 2D and started to develop a complete set of numerals. It was here that the forms started to become more intricate and a reminiscence to the internal patterns of classic marbles emerged. Mark then expanded on the idea using the refined letters in his own graphic work. The first was on his Max Richter – Dream 3 sleeve submission to Secret 7 s 2016. then, having fixed on the name marbles and design direction, mark said it would have been remiss not to experiment with 3d versions which he created in cinema 4d studio, which are eye-popping. my favourites though are the flat colour chromatic versions seen in mark’s euro 2016 fixtures
