EAA AirVenture Oshkosh on Flipboard

By Experimental Aircraft Association | Updates and highlights from the Experimental Aircraft Association, hosts of The World's Greatest Aviation Celebration.

We love our jobs, and there's almost nowhere we'd rather be than in our offices here in Oshkosh. Almost.

The Stearman Model 75 biplane performing at the Airventure Airshow. The Stearman was used as a military trainer, 10,626 were built in the United States during the 1930s and 1940s. Stearman Aircraft became a subsidiary of Boeing in 1934. Widely known as the Stearman, Boeing Stearman or Kaydet, it served as a primary trainer for the USAAF, the USN, and with the RCAF as the Kaydet throughout World War II. After the conflict was over, thousands of surplus aircraft were sold on the civilian market. In the immediate postwar years they became popular as crop dusters, sports planes, and for aerobatic and wing walking use in airshows. The photo here was taken with the Sony a77II & 70-400mm G lens. I'm planning my annual trip to Wisconsin for #airventure #osh15. I'll be taking my boys with me this year and likely staying in tents instead of taking one of the campers thousands of miles just for the 3 of us. Send me a message if you'd like to meet up there or along the way. Can't wait! #roadtrip #travel #vacation #airplanes #familytime

THROWBACK THURSDAY: Here’s a look back to #OSH09 and a brief shower that wasn't in the forecast. #tbt

We shared a group photo yesterday from the 128th Air Refueling Wing that included our founder, Paul Poberezny. That prompted a friend of ours named Heather Dykema to write and send us this photo, another great glimpse into the past! "I saw the photo you posted today from the 128th. That was my dad's unit for many years and attached is a photo of Mr. Poberezny with my dad, Malcolm Russell (2nd from right), as well as two other guard members. I don't know who is in the pilot's seat and the photo wasn't dated."
