We saw these amazing clouds forming on our drive to Cradle Mountain. These falls which are unnamed on Tasmaps would have to be one of my favorite places in @tasmania. Golden hour light illuminating the craggy peaks of Mount Roland as captured here by @theotherwayhome from the tranquil hills of Lower Wilmot. This majestic mountain dominates the horizon in this @TasmaniasNorthWest view, standing at 1,234m over a landscape filled with classic coastal drives, food trails, stunning national parks and beautiful nature reserves. It is an area with a wealth of fascinating stories, from great museums to significant Aboriginal heritage sites, and a creative spirit that is showcased in the many art galleries, public artworks, artisan shops and markets along the picturesque North West coast. Thanks for tagging #discovertasmania, Barry! #Tasmania #SeeAustralia #MountRoland #TasmaniasNorthwest

The imposing silhouette of Barn Bluff against pastel, dusk skies as seen from the winding boardwalk of Waterfall Valley on @Tasmaniasnorthwest's iconic #OverlandTrack. The Overland is Australia’s premier alpine walk - a 65 km, six-day trek through the heart of the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park - part of the magnificent Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. It's views like these of the stunning alpine landscapes and towering mountains paired with the physical challenge of the multi-day adventure that have secured its national and international reputation as one of the great wilderness bushwalks. Are you up for the challenge? Thanks for tagging #discovertasmania, @kalanrobb! #SeeAustralia #Tasmania

Waking up to this. We went to bed the previous evening listening to rain on the tents and a howling wind. When we awoke, this was our surprise. What a treat!

When it's your first time seeing snow in years so you run up Cradle Mountain @tasmania instead of hike! This was our honest reaction. Thankyou to my sister and brother for making this trip one to remember forever. Sibling trips! ______________________________________________ #thecreatorclass #roadtrip #illgrammers#roamtheplanet#wanderfolk#pnwonderland#🏔#🗻

The imposing profile of Mount Gould in this glorious sunrise shot over a frozen oasis from @dsallai. Positioned deep within the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, the Gould Plateau is most commonly accessed via a two- to three-hour walk into the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park from the northern end of Lake St Clair. An expedition into the area represents an opportunity for more experienced hikers to divert from the Overland Track and immerse themselves in the glacial tarns, twisted ranges and spectacular vistas for which the Tassie wilderness is world-renown. It's one of the many pristine and stunning regions hidden across our little state that truly needs to be seen to be believed. Thanks for tagging #discovertasmania, Daniel. #TasmaniasNorthWest #MountGould #Wilderness #SeeAustralia

Cradle Mountain captured as the low-hanging, morning fog rolled in. @Taswegianwanderer snapped this stunner of one of Tasmania’s most recognised natural icons, tucked away in the vast wilderness of @tasmaniasnorthwest. While the mountain itself is a jewel in the crown of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, there is so much more to see and experience in the greater Cradle Mountain - Lake St Clair National Park. Whether you keen to try out the network of graded walking tracks, visit a glacial lake, hike one of the many surrounding mountains, explore the dense alpine rainforests, or get your adrenaline pumping on a heart-stopping canyoning experience, there's no shortage of things to excite in this pristine wilderness. Thanks for tagging #discovertasmania, Zach! #cradlemountain #worldheritage #Tasmania #SeeAustralia

Now this is a view we wouldn't mind waking up to! Taking in the stunning, frosty morning views of the Mount Geryon from the warmth of a sleeping bag with @dsallai. This majestic mountain forms part of the Du Cane Range in Tasmania's Central Highlands and is a favourite of bushwalkers looking to explore the heart of Tassie's wilderness on a side trip from the iconic Overland Track. The surrounding area is aptly known as the Labyrinth and is made up of a maze of tarns, glacial lakes and fantastically named mountains in this stunning part of the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. Thanks for tagging #discovertasmania, Daniel! #thelabyrinth #overlandtrack #tasmania #seeaustralia #mountgeryon

Don't mind if i do....just a little taste! Found this cutie at #cradlemountain delicately eating grass. I was able to get within 2 meters of the little fellow. I lay on the ground watching him eat for a good 10 minutes as i snapped away. If you haven't gotten the winter woolies out yet, now might be a good time to do so! Tassie is bracing itself for its first real cold-snap in the next few days. And with it, plenty of roaring log fires, a glass or two of fine Tassie red wine and, of course, plenty of fun in the snow! @Jasonlstephens captured this stunning wintery scene while exploring the boardwalks of Cradle Mountain - Lake St Clair National Park in Tassie's North West under clear skies and fresh, fluffy powder. Like so many of Tassie's landscapes, the forests and button grass plains around Cradle Mountain are constantly changing with the seasons. You never quite know what you're you going to get! The lighthouse on Mersey Bluff on a sunny afternoon a couple of weeks back. Does anyone know if there's a story or reason for the red candy stripe down its tower?

A beautiful and unique view of The Nut at Stanley by Steve Pullen 😀 The historic village of Stanley, in far north-west Tasmania, is nestled at the base of the Nut, a sheer-sided bluff - all that remains of an ancient volcanic plug. A walking track climbs to the summit of the Nut, or you can take the chairlift, with its spectacular views across Bass Strait beaches and over the town. There is accommodation and an excellent campground in Stanley, and the town is a good base for exploring the forests and coastlines further west. See seals, penguins, sea birds and other wildlife close to Stanley local operators offer a range of observation tours. #tasmania #instatasmania #tassie #tassiepics #tasmaniagram #exploretasmania #exploreaustralia #amazingtasmania #amazingaustralia #hobartandbeyond #thenut #stanley #discovertasmania #discoveraustralia #australia #gosomeshere #getlostnow #clicktasmania #seeaustralia

Have you ever seen a full moon encircled by a rainbow? This remarkable phenomenon was recently captured near Cradle Mountain in @tasmaniasnorthwest by @jbalzat. With minimal light pollution and a clear atmosphere, Tassie's night skies are the perfect setting for chasing 'moon-bows'. You'll need to rug up and choose a dark, cold and clear night when the moon is at its fullest and low to the horizon, and there's a high degree of moisture in the air. (After all, it's the tiny ice particles that refract the moon's light and produce the rainbow.) Combine all these elements and you just might witness something really special. Perhaps that's why they're also quite rare?... Thanks for sharing your shot with us, Jens. And for tagging #discovertasmania.

On the coast near the mouth of the Arthur River in @tasmaniasnorthwest is a plaque titled 'The Edge of the World' and sometimes it really feels like it! As @icart263's image shows, this coastline is as beautiful as it is remote. It's regularly lashed by the winds of the Roaring Forties - the strong westerly winds found in the Southern Hemisphere between the latitudes of 40 and 50 degrees. The combined ocean currents and river flow create a churning effect at the river's mouth, which results in ancient logs being regularly deposited on the beach. This is driftwood West Coast Tassie-style! The Arthur River township is also a great base from which to explore the Tarkine wilderness. Thanks for tagging #discovertasmania, Traci.

Flashback to a night when @richeyjtas photographed lady Aurora Australis' vertical columns of light dancing above the fertile farmlands of @tasmaniasnorthwest. Tassie is fortunate to be in a prime location to enjoy displays of the Southern Lights. Low light pollution and our proximity to the South Pole means that when the conditions are right, the show is on! It has been a while since our last gala performance, but Tassie's Aurora chasers are always standing by - ready to scoop up their camera equipment and brave the night to capture an elusive display of colour. And when incredible shots like this are produced, we all reap the benefits! Thanks for tagging #discovertasmania, Jamie. #seeaustralia #tasmaniasnorthwest #mytassiebreak

A cushioned pathway leads into a winter wonderland in the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park in this atmospheric shot from @remybrand. The 5.5-kilometre Cradle Valley Boardwalk links the Interpretation Centre and Ranger Station at the entrance to the national park to Ronny Creek (the start of the Overland Track) and on to Dove Lake at the base of the iconic mountain. It's an enchanting walk in any season, but especially during winter when a layer of the fluffy white stuff adds to the excitement. And the best part? Getting back to your cosy accommodation and relaxing in front of a hypnotic log fire with a warming Tassie single malt or pinot. Thanks for tagging #discovertasmania, Remy. #cradlemountain #seeaustralia #tasmaniaparks
