"The trek in greeted me with a rainbow... on the way back I was chased away with a thunder storm." A brilliant capture from the Tamar Island wetlands by @lifeinfocusphotography. Located just 10 minutes from Launceston, the Tamar Island Wetlands is a unique wetlands reserve with a 2km wheelchair-friendly boardwalk running through it, strategically positioned so you can ogle the resident birds. The island itself also has BBQs and an elevated bird hive ūüėÉ #instatasmania #tasmania #tassie #tassiepics #tasmaniagram #tamarvalley #hobartandbeyond #clicktasmania #seetasmania #discovertasmania #discoveraustralia #exploretasmania #exploreaustralia #amazingtasmania #amazingaustralia #australia #gosomewhere #getlostnow

The vibrant turquoise waters of Little Blue Lake in the dappled light of a winter afternoon in @NorthernTasmania. Located just metres off the main road between Derby and Gladstone in Tassie's far north east corner, the lake is a phenomenon that has resulted from the area's pioneering tin mining days. It reflects a vivid aqua blue from the minerals that occur in its base and is a must visit for those in the wukalina / Mount William National Park region. Though the miners have long since packed their bags, the lake is now a popular spot with locals and visitors alike, and well worth the stop on any Northern roadtrip. A very picturesque Bradys lookout by @lovethywalrus who says: "Even with my own eyes I struggled to distinguish this scene between reality and a handcrafted painted masterpiece as the late afternoon sun streamed through. The Tamar Valley is a charming region of northern Tassie, and also my childhood home." Thanks Paul ūüėÉ Bradys Lookout offers beautiful views over the Tamar River and surrounding areas. There are excellent, fully accessible toilet and picnic facilities, including sheltered BBQs and a number of picnic tables. The paths to the lookouts have good surface material and width, although wheelchair users may require assistance due to the moderate gradient. #tasmania #tasmaniagram #tassie #tassiepics #instatasmania #bradyslookout #tamarvalley #clicktasmania #seeaustralia #hobartandbeyond #discovertasmania #discoveraustralia #exploretasmania #exploreaustralia #amazingtasmania #amazingaustralia #australia #gosomewhere #getlostnow

"What? Oh, do I have something in my teef?..." This shot of a snacking Bennetts wallaby taken by @simply.travel in Launceston's Cataract Gorge Reserve really made us smile! The unique location of the gorge - only 15 minutes' walk from the Launceston CBD - makes it a cherished and popular attraction for locals and visitors alike. Aside from it's incredibly cute, furry and friendly locals, the reserve features an extensive network of walking tracks and pathways, a swimming pool, a restaurant and cafe, and the longest single-span chairlift in the southern hemisphere. It's the perfect place to while away a couple of hours - or indeed a whole day - in one of the world's most unique urban settings. Thanks for tagging #discovertasmania!

A celestial light show framed above the Grindelwald Chapel in @northerntasmania with @lifeinfocusphotography. Located 15 minutes' drive north of the city of Launceston, the village of Grindelwald was established in the 1980s as a unique residential development. All the houses in Grindelwald have been built in Swiss style, with wide eaves, flowerboxes, window shutters and balconies. The settlement is fringed with glassy lakes and views of the Tamar Valley, and features an expansive family-friendly resort with an activity list as long as the Alps! It's a little bit of Europe in northern Tasmania that delights local and visitors alike. Thanks for tagging #discovertasmania, Jono.

Despite the crazy weather, Tasmania still managed to whip up a hidden gem for me!

Great view down the Tamar River, Tasmania. #northerntasmania #discoverwesttamar #discovertasmania

I'm halfway through one of the best road trips I've ever experienced with @s4soundproduction, weaving our way through Tasmania in a campervan that smells faintly of foot at the worst of times and delicious bacon at the best of times. I'm actually awestruck at the terrain in this place. It's like Australia and New Zealand had a baby and annexed it to the south of the world. #discovertasmania

Get off the beaten track in Tassie and you're bound to find scenes like this. Welcome to the Great Western Tiers in @northerntasmania, and the remote Hidden Falls, photographed here by @ljdphotos. The Great Western Tiers are a collection of mountainous bluffs that form the northern edge of Tassie's legendary Central Plateau. Part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, they're most centrally accessed from Deloraine - a delightful riverside town with an historic streetscape classified by the National Trust and home to @Australia's largest annual craft fair. So what are you waiting for? Lace up your boots, load up your day-pack and take your imagination on a day trip to remember. Thanks for tagging #discovertasmania, Laurie.

Time to take to the skies over Narawntapu National Park and Badger Head in @northerntasmania with @milesgray88. Known as the 'Serengeti of Tasmania' due to the proliferation of native animals that graze in the park, Narawntapu includes an historic farm, a complex of inlets, small islands, headlands, wetlands, dunes and lagoons, all with an amazing variety of plants and animals. At dusk and dawn, this place is guaranteed wombat, kangaroo and wallaby-spotting territory! Narawntapu is about 30 minutes' drive from either Devonport or Launceston, or your can stay close by at one of the coastal communities such as Port Sorell or Greens Beach. Oh, and as you can see, the beaches are all yours! Thanks for tagging #discovertasmania, Miles.

Little bit of a long exposure down in Deloraine, Tasmania. Was looking through my phone and found this picture of the Meander River in high flow floating around that seems to have been missed somehow. Always pretty speccy when there's this much water flowing over the weir, the little red building (pumphouse?) makes for quite a pretty subject. #deloraine #meanderriver #weir #water #longexposure #tassie#tasmania #tassiepics #tasmaniagram #northwesttasmania #discovertasmania #instatassie #seetasmania #exploretasmania #exploreaustralia #australiagram #hellobluey #loves_longexposure #longexpohunter #amazing_longexpo #iso100 #10stop #lazyshutters #igmasters #beautifuldestinations#wow_australia2016 #ig_exquisite #ig_dynamic #focusaustralia

Morning warmth gently floods the Low Head Peninsula in @northerntasmaniain in this award-winning image from @colinbutterworthphoto. Located on the eastern shore of the mouth of the of the Tamar River - five kilometres north of the community of George Town - Low Head is home to @Australia's third oldest lighthouse and the only G-type foghorn still in operation in the southern hemisphere. Also nearby is Australia's oldest pilot station - a delightful collection of cottages and buildings dating from 1806. Today it's home to the Low Head Pilot Station Maritime Museum, a fascinating and interactive display with stories and relics of the early days of sail and steam shipping in Tassie. A very cool pic of an abandoned tunnel at Tunnel, just outside Lilydale, thanks to @talleah_johns ūüėÉ The tunnel is long, very long, and open to walk through... if you are game! Tasmania‚Äôs North East Rail Trail project is set to revitalise the region through the conversion of 70kms of disused rail corridor from Launceston to Scottsdale into a world-class cycling and walking track. This means that cyclists and walkers will be able to sip, savor, spend, explore and invest as they meander along 100km through some of the State‚Äôs most picturesque villages, farmland, vineyards, art galleries, cafes, farmgate experiences and much more. The North East Rail Trail will pass through the rural hamlets of Karoola, Lalla, Lilydale, Tunnel, Lebrina, Nabowla, Lietinna, Scottsdale and onto Billycock Hill. The trail also includes an 1888-constructed 840-metre-long tunnel that is the envy of rail trail managers around the world. #tasmania #tasmaniagram #tassie #tassiepics #instatasmania #tunnel #traintrack #railway #hobartandbeyond #clicktasmania #seeaustralia #discovertasmania #discoveraustralia #amazingtasmania #amazingaustralia #exploretasmania #exploreaustralia #australia #lilydale #gosomewhere #getlostnow

Clear winter skies and plenty of fluffy snow powdering the slopes of Ben Lomond. @lifeinfocusphotography snapped this shot while exploring the village and surrounds in the Ben Lomond National Park, in Tassie's North. The vast alpine plateau is home to Legges Tor, Tassie's second-highest peak, and offers a full range of snow experiences from skiing to snow boarding, tobogganing to just playing around in the freshly fallen snow. The ski season generally runs from July to September, depending on the conditions, but as you can see, the conditions currently couldn't be better! Grab your skis, we'll meet you there! He's back!...Introducing the new adventures of Derek the wombat from Flinders Island in @northerntasmania. Since we first met Derek back in March, he has become a strapping young adolescent and his escapades greater by the day! His carer, Kate - 'The Wombat Lady of Flinders Island' - has also adopted two more orphaned babies, Derek's little step-sisters April and May. Life for this super-cute and cheeky trio consists of hilarious explorations, regular meals and feeding, and of course a whole lot of cuddles and sleeping. We look forward to sharing Derek's story as he is cared for by Kate, and eventually returned to the wilds of Flinders Island and a life of endless adventures. Stay cheeky, Derek - and have fun!
