A very cool pic of an abandoned tunnel at Tunnel, just outside Lilydale, thanks to @talleah_johns ūüėÉ The tunnel is long, very long, and open to walk through... if you are game! Tasmania‚Äôs North East Rail Trail project is set to revitalise the region through the conversion of 70kms of disused rail corridor from Launceston to Scottsdale into a world-class cycling and walking track. This means that cyclists and walkers will be able to sip, savor, spend, explore and invest as they meander along 100km through some of the State‚Äôs most picturesque villages, farmland, vineyards, art galleries, cafes, farmgate experiences and much more. The North East Rail Trail will pass through the rural hamlets of Karoola, Lalla, Lilydale, Tunnel, Lebrina, Nabowla, Lietinna, Scottsdale and onto Billycock Hill. The trail also includes an 1888-constructed 840-metre-long tunnel that is the envy of rail trail managers around the world. #tasmania #tasmaniagram #tassie #tassiepics #instatasmania #tunnel #traintrack #railway #hobartandbeyond #clicktasmania #seeaustralia #discovertasmania #discoveraustralia #amazingtasmania #amazingaustralia #exploretasmania #exploreaustralia #australia #lilydale #gosomewhere #getlostnow

Clear winter skies and plenty of fluffy snow powdering the slopes of Ben Lomond. @lifeinfocusphotography snapped this shot while exploring the village and surrounds in the Ben Lomond National Park, in Tassie's North. The vast alpine plateau is home to Legges Tor, Tassie's second-highest peak, and offers a full range of snow experiences from skiing to snow boarding, tobogganing to just playing around in the freshly fallen snow. The ski season generally runs from July to September, depending on the conditions, but as you can see, the conditions currently couldn't be better! Grab your skis, we'll meet you there! He's back!...Introducing the new adventures of Derek the wombat from Flinders Island in @northerntasmania. Since we first met Derek back in March, he has become a strapping young adolescent and his escapades greater by the day! His carer, Kate - 'The Wombat Lady of Flinders Island' - has also adopted two more orphaned babies, Derek's little step-sisters April and May. Life for this super-cute and cheeky trio consists of hilarious explorations, regular meals and feeding, and of course a whole lot of cuddles and sleeping. We look forward to sharing Derek's story as he is cared for by Kate, and eventually returned to the wilds of Flinders Island and a life of endless adventures. Stay cheeky, Derek - and have fun!

Fill an old quarry with water. Rebuild a 130 year old corn mill around it. Add a brewery, rock climbing wall, firing cannons, wooden ship, accommodation and some other stuff.... because you can! #launceston #pennyroyal _____________________________________ #longexposureoftimelapsetheday #nightphotography #nightimages #canonaustralia #tasmaniagram #reflectiongram #fs_longexposure #ig_nightphotography #nightsofwonder #lightjunkies #australiagram #ig_australia #exploreaustralia #exploringaustralia #night_shooterz #night_shotz #amazingtasmania #adventuretasmania #thinktasmania #instatassie #discovertasmania #instatasmania

The lush and vibrant surroundings of the the Bastion Cascades, deep within the Meander Forest Reserve, captured by @offbeatphotography. Located south-east of the township of Mole Creek in @northerntasmania, the leisurely circuit walk to this location is described by the photographer as ‚Äú‚Ķone of the sweetest waterfall adventures that Tassie has to offer. The walk is only 5.5 kilometres return through mostly undulating native forests with amazing fungi dotted all around. The base of the falls is a great place to sit back and take it all in.‚ÄĚ Sounds - and looks - perfect to us, Isaac. Thanks for tagging #discovertasmania.

Next time you are in the city of Launceston. Just pause for a minute, and look up. You may be surprised at what you may see. #architecture #urban #adventure #exploring #exploration #urbanexplorer #urbanphotography #city #discovertasmania #tasmania #seeaustralia

Where will your next adventures take you? Perhaps, like @travelinfluencer_, it will be to @NorthernTasmania and the historic city of Launceston - Tasmania's second major city and a vibrant hub for food and wine, culture and nature. One of Australia's oldest cities, Launceston has one of the best-preserved early cityscapes in Australia with its elegant Colonial and Victorian architecture and century-old parks. From Launceston, you can follow the Tamar River north through Tasmania's premium wine-growing region, past forested hills and farmland, lavender fields, vineyards, orchards and pretty riverside towns. So what are you waiting for? Time to book those flights! Thanks for tagging #discovertasmania, Jason.

A picture-perfect sunset over the historic township of Cressy in @northerntasmania thanks to @xpostmanx. Located on the Norfolk Plains, Cressy was established in the 1840s as the business centre for what was once the richest wheat growing areas in Tasmania. Today the town is renown as the 'Gateway to Trout Fishing Paradise' and offers access to Brumby's Creek, local weirs, as well as the Macquarie, Lake and Liffey rivers - all top spots that attract anglers from around the world. With the promise of scenes like this, it's not such a bad thing if the fish aren't biting. Thanks for tagging #discovertasmania, Matthew. #seeaustralia #northerntasmania #cressy #flyfishing #sunset

A very important piece of Waverley Mills history is the popularly known 'Bonus Act' of 1871 which was taken up by our very own Peter Bulman. [‚ÄĘ‚ÄĘ‚ÄĘ] Bulman's intentions were commented on in The Cornwall Chronicle (newspaper), published 2nd October 1871 - 'We are glad to hear at length a private individual is likely to accomplish what joint-stock enterprise declines to undertake'. [‚ÄĘ‚ÄĘ‚ÄĘ] We love sharing our long and rich history with you! Stay social for all things Waverley Mills! [

Stunning afternoon skies reflected in the vibrant turquoise waters of Little Blue Lake, located just metres off the main road between Derby and Gladstone in @NorthernTasmania. This lake, tucked away in Tassie's far north east corner, is a phenomenon that has resulted from the pioneering mining days of South Mount Cameron and the surrounding areas. It reflects a vivid aqua blue from the minerals that occur in its base and is a must visit for those in the wukalina / Mount William National Park region. It's a popular spot with locals for kayaking, but due to the high mineral content, we probably don't recommend taking a dip. Glad I had my new beanie on.....helped me stand still long enough to get some beautiful images looking up into Launceston's Gorge as it gently flowed under Kings Bridge and West Tamar Bridge.
