Juneteenth: Stories on freedom, reparations and remembering

Juneteenth celebrates the freedom of enslaved people at the end of the Civil War. But for hundreds of thousands of Blacks stuck in pretrial detention, unable to make bail but not convicted of a crime, the promise of freedom is unfulfilled. Also, with the holiday landing on Father’s Day weekend, it's a reminder of the loss associated with the forced separation of families.
