UK business delegation to visit Nigeria, Ghana next week A Nigerian member of the British Parliament is to lead representatives of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the UK Trade Institute to visit Nigeria and Ghana next week. In a statement in Lagos on Friday, the parliamentarian, Chuka Umunna, said that the visit would give Nigeria and Ghana small and medium scale business opportunities. In the statement issued by the chambers’ Press Officer, Ms Ruth Wharram, Umunna said that the visits to Lagos and Accra would begin on May 13 and end on May 17. He said that the visit was informed by the countries’ huge potential for business partnerships. ``Nigeria is on course to become the leading economy in sub-Saharan Africa in the next decade; Ghana is the UK’s third largest market for exports in this region. ``Nigeria is one of the fastest growing countries in Africa; it is estimated that it will surpass South Africa as the continent's largest economy by 2016. ``That is why I am looking forward to visiting Nigeria and Ghana next week to champion British business,’’ he said. Umunna said that there were historic links and linguistic ties between Britain, Nigeria and Ghana. He hoped that the visit would build stronger links between the economies of West Africa and Britain. ``We need a push to boost trade with the next generation of emerging economies, which include a large number of African countries,’’ he said.
