A silhouette of a young cheetah as he sits on a ridge in the morning light. We went to this spot before sunrise hoping to see cheetah or lion in this type of light and got lucky. This cheetah and his two siblings didn't sit around too long and were off to hunt at first light. Starting on Friday, November 27, Nat Geo WILD will present a week dedicated to nature’s fiercest felines—big cats—creatures of magnificent strength, ferocity and beauty that are rapidly facing extinction. Populations of lions, tigers, cheetahs, leopards, jaguars, and other top felines are declining at an alarming rate. They are victims of habitat loss and degradation as well as conflicts with humans. More than a television event Big Cat Week is an extension of the Big Cats Initiative, a long-term commitment by the National Geographic Society to stop poaching, save habitat and sound the call that big steps are needed to save big cats around the world. This global initiative actively supports on-the-ground conservation projects and education to help stem and eventually reverse the rapid disappearance of big cat populations. All that week, I will be posting Big Cat images here and on my account at @andywcoleman #bigcatweek #bigcats @natgeocreative

This guy seen here didn't make the cut. Once the rutting has ended large Bulls regather for the winter season staying within proximity of the large female herds.

Photo taken by @stevemccurryofficial // For two thousand years, the route of the Grand Trunk Road (GT) has connected a ribbon of humanity stretching Northwest from Kolkata, India, the city of culture and joy, to Kabul, the city of conflict and danger. It was the route of merchants, buyers, conquerors, refugees, prophets, nomads and pilgrims through what is today India, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Rudyard Kipling said, "And truly the Grand Trunk Road is a wonderful spectacle. Such a river of life as no where else exists in the world." I shot this picture of reflections at the Taj Mahal in Agra, which is one of the many cities along the road. To see more from the GT, visit my blog: https://goo.gl/JQVgZv

Just down the hill from the quarry from which the magnificent Moai were carved lies Ahu Tongariki, the biggest Ahu (platform) on the island of Rapa Nui (also called Easter Island). I went out for sunrise on most mornings on a recent stay here and had two amazing sunrises that lit the sky an incredible fire orange behind the beautiful statues. I've always wanted to visit this place...it is legendary not just for photography but also for the incredible work the Rapa Nui people did to make such beautiful statues with such limited tools. // photo by @jonathan_irish
