-NEW JERSEY, US - MAY 16, 2025: Train engineers in the US state of New Jersey launched a strike early Friday, bringing all commuter rail service to a halt and disrupting transportation for an estimated 350,000 daily passengers, NBC News reported. Around 450 members of The brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen walked off the job, citing lack of a contract since 2019 and no pay raises in six years. The union said its members are the lowest-paid engineers among major US passenger railroads. “New Jersey Transit is facing a sobering fiscal reality,” Gov. Phil Murphy said Thursday, hours before strike action began.
