Twitter said it had received "an unsolicited, non-binding proposal from Elon Musk to acquire all of the company's outstanding common stock."
Elon Musk has offered to buy Twitter outright in a deal that values the company at $43 billion. Musk proposed buying the Twitter stock he doesn't own for $54.20 per share, an SEC filing shows. If the offer fails, Musk said he would "reconsider" his current 9.2% stake in the company.
What did Musk say, exactly?
"Twitter has extraordinary potential. I will unlock it," Musk wrote.
Following the offer
"My offer is my best and final offer and if it is not accepted, I would need to reconsider my position as a shareholder."
"This is not a threat," Musk said. "It's simply not a good investment without the changes that need to be made."
Will Musk's Twitter Takeover actually happen?
"We believe this soap opera will end with Musk owning Twitter after this aggressive hostile takeover of the company," Wedbush said.
When asked if Amazon would ever attempt to buy Twitter, Jassy said "It sounds like somebody else is going to own Twitter."
Twitter reacts
A teenager who made an enemy of Musk by creating a Twitter account to track his private jet hasn't reacted well to the billionaire's offer to buy the social-media platform outright.
