There's no '3 second rule' for gray whales. They take huge bites of the ocean floor and then filter it out. During gray whales' necropsies (non-human autopsies), scientists have found things like rope, golf balls, sweat pants, bottles and aluminum cans in their stomachs! What happens after a necropsy of an animal this big? Well, this one (on the floor, between the researchers) was cleaned and delivered to the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History for further research and safe keeping.
