The Americans' slow start was a distant memory after winning 10 medals on Sunday at the Tokyo Olympics. The U.S. did the most damage in the pool, taking home six medals in swimming, including a first gold on Chase Kalisz's performance in the men's 400-meter individual medley. The developments were not all positive as the women's gymnastics team finished behind Russia in qualifying after a few stumbles from Simone Biles, and the men's basketball team lost its first Olympic game since 2004.
The Tokyo Games will feature six sports that weren't part of the Rio Olympics. While baseball and softball are returning for the first time since 2008, Tokyo will be the Olympic debut for surfing, skateboarding, sport climbing and karate. Scroll through photos of the venues for each and some of the top contenders in the four new sports.
Saturday's Nationals-Padres game was suspended when shooting outside Nationals Park caused echoes of gunfire inside the stadium. The gunshots came from at least one car toward another and there were three people wounded, according to police. One of the wounded was a woman attending the game. Her injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening. Players cleared the field and fans scrambled. Not knowing where the shooters were, some exited the stadium and some sought safety in the Padres' dugout.
