Photo of the day – A fairly common and widespread Himalayan species, the Blue-throated Barbet occurs throughout much of the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, and is definitely one of the most beautiful members of the barbet family. Markus Lilje photographed this particular bird in Bhutan.

Unfortunately they were active on the part of the trunk which was in shade, hence I had to pump up the ISO to get a decent shutter speed EXIF: Canon 7D, Canon 400mm f5.6 L USM, f5.6, 1/60sec, ISO-800, handheld.


Brown Headed Barbet, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu, India..

The Rufous-tailed Jacamar eats mostly flying insects, such as moths, butterflies, and dragonflies. When the insect is caught, the bird beats it against a branch to remove its wings before eating. I photographed this one in Brazil.
