Ramadan, the holy month, is right around the corner, and as we gladly take on fasting our skin loses its nourishment and glow. The sudden change in our dietary routine and the lowered intake of water causes the skin to lose moisture and elasticity, which is why we appear duller and tired during the holy month. There is however a solution to keep your skin glowing even when you’re fasting: 1. Steer clear from makeup. It goes without saying that makeup and Ramadan don’t mix. Take the holy month as an opportunity to give your skin a break from all the harmful chemicals found in cosmetics. 2. Drink 8 cups of water throughout the day. Water will not only keep you hydrated and moisturize your skin; it will also help you feel fuller longer. So instead of sodas and juice, keep a water bottle in handy every day. 3. Cleanse, Exfoliate, and Tone. This should be your regular facial routine, however in Ramadan you want to make sure you follow through with this. It’s hot, your skin is shedding, and your pores are likely to be open, so by following these three steps, you’ll make sure to avoid breakouts during the hot summer months. 4. Snack on fibers. Fiber rich food will help repair your skin. From fruits and vegetables to nuts and fish, essential oils in these food groups act as skin healers so make sure you squeeze some into your daily iftar. 5. One word: Yogurt. Not only does it aid in digestion, yogurt is a protein rich food that nourishes your skin whether you eat it at iftar and sohoor or directly apply it as a facial mask. Remember, fasting doesn’t mean your face should starve too. Nourish your skin, follow your regular beauty routine, and just drink a little extra water than you normally do just to be safe.
