Day 27 #MayIBeginYoga2016 is Paschimattanasana. This deep seated forward fold is the standard forward fold for most yoga poses. Forward fold is like the great zen riddle of yoga: if you have it then it unlocks so much, but if you don't it can be so frustrated and deflating. Remember to take it slowly, slowly and practice with equal parts patience and faith. Rest assured all is coming. 🙏 . For the technique, tune in on YouTube, do the practice and leave me a comment on YouTube to keep me updated on your practice and ask any questions (link to Day 27 video in bio). 🌟 . 🚗👜🐾Day 2️⃣7️⃣ of #HipRoadTrip ➡️ #Bakasana in #EkaPadaSirsasana 🐾👜🚗 We’ve done this pose before in other challenges and I keep on repeating it because, just like #Crow is the first #armbalance you achieve when you float up on your hands, it happens the same thing when you do an arm balance with Leg behind the head (#EkaPadaSirsasana). Even if the leg can’t hold itself back there for a long time or it slips out pretty quickly, trying Crow is going to make you realize how straight your back needs to be and it’ll strengthen the neck muscles to hold the leg easier. The longer you keep warming up and accessing your hips, the easier the final stage of this pose will be. Think of sending the outer shin to the back of the neck, not so much the back of the head, and its foot towards the opposite shoulder. Straighten your back and feel the shin going into the natural curvature the neck has. Regardless where you get, maintain your breath long, to continue to access and unlock those hips, then come onto the other toes, squat, plant the hands down shoulder width apart, squeeze with the only knee you have left onto its arm, lift those toes and balance like you’d do for regular Crow. If you feel the leg behind the head sliding out, before that happens, come down on your back toes and let it unhook as slowly as possible, so you won’t feel such a sudden move (it’s happened to all of us, don’t worry). Watch out for tomorrow’s modification and video on this to help you along the way!! And stay positive, we’re almost there!!! 'Red Green Peppers' mat by @livesankalpa.

Be brave. Be silly. Be your own magic. Be present. Be full of surprises. Be adventurous. Be kind. Be free. Be you ✨ ab❤️x #tb to making shapes in the Maldives with @jessicaolie 👯🌴☀️❣

Day 12 #MayIBeginYoga2016 is Prasarita Padottanasana C, Wide Legged Forward Fold. The shoulder position is hard to understand. Rather than pinching your scapulae together spread them apart and allow the shoulders to roll internally. Just go as far as you can. No stress. 🙏 . Watch my new video just released on my YouTube channel for the practice and breakdown. Please like and comment to keep me updated on your practice and inspired to keep sharing this month (link to Day 12 video in bio). 🌟 . Check with @beachyogagirl for her video today. 🌟 . LEARN TO FEEL BAD...... In Psychology, the Ostrich-Syndrome, also called Avoidance-coping, is when we stick our head in the sand to ignore things that are uncomfortable and unwanted: a relationship that's no longer working, an addiction, the past that we ran away from, a lump in our breast, a lover we wronged, a lover who wronged us... In truth, what we are avoiding isn't the lover, the past, or the lump; it's the feelings that arise from them: the fear, guilt, shame, failure, and inadequacy... . We are fugitives from our own negative feelings and the only thing we are avoiding is ourself... Avoidance, in the short term, is easier than dealing with things head on, but what price are we paying in the long run? What dreadful feelings are we dragging along in the shadows? What painful reminders are lurking in the dark recesses of our minds? How can we sleep easy, love fully, breathe freely? . Enough! We neither need to run away from our feelings nor do we need to fix them... emotions aren't broken things, they demand to be felt, observed and acknowledged. It's the only way to move past them. . Once we learn how to feel bad, we develop emotional intelligence. We learn how to take full ownership of our life. We control the cause-and-affect. We find alternatives. We believe in choices. we experience love for ourselves and learn to love others. . To learn how to feel bad is to learn how to live openly, authentically, and courageously. Life doesn't go on forever and the worse kind of extravagance is wasting our freedom being fugitives of our own emotions... #betrue #bebrave #beyou

Taking aim. 🏹An archer cannot hit the bullseye if he doesn't know where the target is. 🎯 Stay motivated by keeping your eye on your goals.

You "get" there by realising that you are there already. A nice reminder from Eckhart Tolle in his classic - The Power of Now. I still remember when that book came out and the profound impact it had on me. All these years later and it's still NOW and it's still POWERFUL.🙏 @brandonsmithphotography

#tbt 2012 I think 🤔. One of the best things about doing photoshoots is not so much the photos, but, especially in India, exploring different temples and landscapes.

Surrender to grace. The ocean cares for each wave until it reaches the shore. You are given more help then you will ever know. Rumi | PC: @galaxy.souls

Thanks @edgardosantana for supporting me in this tough stretch! It was fun but we were both sore the following days (especially him, sorry!!). The wall helped a lot in balancing and taking some of my weight off him but still, it was intense. Holding hands would also help (both would be more convenient), arms as straight as you can to take advantage of some upper body strength. In any case, it was some laughs and that’s important to keep the #practice alive and your #heart opened. Modify last night’s pose as needed and let the wall support you in the process!! Piece of cake!

Want to Improve Your Decision-Making? Shut up for 10 days.

Recently, my partner, who once lived in a meditation-focused intentional community (read: hippie house), urged me to go on a 10-day silent retreat to learn insight meditation. Being a skeptic, but wanting to move our relationship forward, I reluctantly drove to the Sierra Nevadas for just such a …

18 Dinner Recipes That Require No Planning Ahead

It's the afternoon and I haven't planned dinner for tonight (or tomorrow, or the night after). That means I want to pick up groceries (a minimal amount!) on my way home and make a meal that does not require I had any sort of plan in mind. I don't want to have to wait for a sauce to reduce; I don't …

Vegetarian Meal Plan: What to Cook This Weekend and Beyond

There was a time when I reveled in my improvisational approach to shopping and cooking. I'd stop at the farmers market, the cheese shop, the wine store, making a menu on the fly, fancying myself the very picture of urban—perhaps even European—life. I'd feel inspired by whatever produce caught my …

Easy flatbread recipes from India, Italy and the Middle East

I had never really thought about flatbreads until 1995, when I bought a book called Flatbreads & Flavors. I stood in Books for Cooks in London salivating over the recipes that the authors Naomi Duguid and Jeffrey Alford had gathered: Hunza sprouted-wheat flatbread with apricots; Afghan naan with …
