Overseas citizenship of India is an ideal kind of permanent resident status accessible only to those of Indian origin and their instant partners that let them reside and operate in India forever. Despite the name, OCI coverage isn't citizenship and hence does not grant the legal right to vote in Indian federal elections or even hold esteemed public office. It's believed that people of Indian origin do not enjoy equal rights as other citizens of India and they are denied equal opportunity in employment, housing, schooling, health care and social welfare.
