Scripture tells us that there is life and death in the power of the tongue. Now, stop and think about that for a moment. Maybe you’ve heard that verse before, but ask God for a deeper understanding of what that truly means. See, too many times we say frivolous things and think they don’t matter. But if we would really understand there is life and death in what we say, we might choose our words more carefully. Now we can’t literally see our words, but we can see the fruit of our words. Everything you have in your life today is a direct result of what you’ve been saying and believing in your yesterdays. You may think those words just fall to the ground and go away, but what’s happening is that those words are being planted and will bring a harvest in your future. Scripture tells us we can either speak blessing or cursing. I’ve heard some people say, “Oh, I can’t wait for the kids to grow up and move out! I can’t wait to be an empty nester.” Really? You may be saying it lightly, but those words fall heavy on the hearers. Those words are words of rejection to a child. Those words translate, “I don’t want you here. You’re a burden to me.” Those kinds of words are received as curses, and I believe we should say nothing before we speak curses! Maybe no one spoke a blessing over you growing up. Maybe no one spoke life over you, and it’s difficult to speak life over your family. Well, until you can speak the blessing, just don’t say anything! And, I don’t think it will take long to turn things around. Ask God what you should say—He’ll tell you! Start by simply saying, “God, thank You for blessing my children. Thank You for my marriage. Thank You that we can do all things through Christ.” Let those words of faith and power knock the enemy down! He can’t stick around when we have God’s Word in our hearts! Ladies, Proverbs 14 talks about how a wise woman builds her home, but a foolish woman tears hers down. Now, I don’t know why it talks only about women here. I would think it should have said men and women; but obviously, God knows some things that I do not! But, this verse tells me that women are influencers in the home. Women, you set the tone and the pace for your family. You are an inspiration, and you can build up your home or you can criticize and tear it down. Make sure you are speaking life over your home. Speak encouragement. Speak tenderness. Men, let me encourage you to let your woman build her house. Let her create an environment to be enjoyed. Don’t come in and say, “I don’t like it, why did you move the couch?” “I don’t like that food. What did you do differently?” Just appreciate her initiative. Let her build. And then, you come in and be a pillar of strength in your home. Women, when you build, your whole family will stand taller for it!

If you’re going to reach your highest potential, you have to make up your mind that you’re not going to be upset because things aren’t happening on your timetable.
