Skellig Michael has just opened for the (tourist) season Many believe that Skellig Michael Island, being a Unesco World Heritage site, is off limits to the average tourist. That, however, is not the case. Yesterday the first boats, filled with tourists, of the season arrived at Skellig Michael. From independent.ie: The Force has awakened in south Kerry. On the first day that Skellig Michael reopened to visitors for the summer season, each of the 12 boats licensed to land passengers was full to capacity. Dan Kroszner and Terra Amelang from Colarado, USA, after visiting Skellig Michael Photo: Don MacMonagle The seaside village of Portmagee was a hive of activity on Sunday morning, with 108 people gathered at the pier for 9.30am. A total of 144 people got to visit the island - one of only two Unesco World Heritage sites in this country - which featured in the latest instalment in the ‘Star Wars’ saga. It has been an anxious time for boatmen over the past week. A rockfall on Monday on the larger Skellig island, that houses the sixth-century monastic settlement, forced the delay of the site reopening until the Office of Public Works was satisfied it was safe. Terra Amelang and Dan Kroszner from Colorado, USA, felt lucky to have got onto the island as part of their 12

Photo: Stacey Mc Ginty In his exclusive interview with Hamill, Hamill told DonegalTV that he had a fantastic time filming the scenes for the upcoming movie. And he even revealed that he plans to return to Donegal – but not when he is working. The star said he would like to return “on his own time.” He then took time out to sign some Star Wars memorabilia and also shook hands and greeted locals outside the bar. He was even given an impromptu hug by a passer-by. John Boyega: New ‘Star Wars’ Is ‘Darker, Bigger’ Than ‘Force Awakens’ John Boyega, in ‘the thick’ of shooting Star Wars: Episode VIII, has done a quick stop over in Cannes to accept the Trophée Chopard award and he took the time to talk about working on Episode 8. He talked to Vulture about working with Kally Marie Tran and he, and Bel Powley who received the Chopard Trophy as well, also sat down with Variety to reveal even more about the next Star Wars saga film. Variety: So tell me, you’re shooting the next “Star Wars” installment? Boyega: Yes, I’m in the thick of it now so it’s nice to be here, see the view and then go back. Variety: And then, straight back into the shoot? Boyega: Yes, straight back. Image by Chopard: John Boyega With Bel Powley Variety: I loved the developing romance between your character, Finn and Rey in “The Force Awakens.” How is that romance evolving in the next chapter Boyega: I mean, we didn’t establish a romance in seven; we never played it that way. Daisy and I, we’re friends. Variety: So there’s no romance? Boyega: Yes, Finn and Rey – they’re just friends. Finn is a storm trooper, so he doesn’t really know what’s going on. So the romance thing is something that’s going to be interesting in the next installment. It’s not going to go the way you think it’s going to go. Variety: And how is it working with Rian Johnson after having worked with J.J. Abrams? Boyega: It’s very easy. Rian Johnson is great. It’s a different take, darker, bigger. Someone will say: “How do you get bigger than ‘Force Awakens?‘” But it’s crazy. Variety: Does your character get darker?
Boyega: My skin color does because of the heat on the job! That’s me dodging your question because Disney has spies everywhere. If I answer this, I get killed, and I’m not in episode nine. Go to Variety.com for the full interview Related Post: Vulture: John Boyega Praises His New co

J.W. Rinzler on the status of The Making of The Force Awakens This week SWNN sat down with J.W Rinzler for an exclusive interview. Rinzler, known for The Making of Star Wars (and The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and Revenge of the Sith), talks about The Making of The Force Awakens, George Lucas and more. Excerpts from StarWarsNewsNet.com: SWNN: Were you on The Force Awakens set as much as you were on Revenge of the Sith? Rinzler: I wasn’t on the set at all. Mark Vaz was. We kind of split up duties in a way, that’s one way of putting it. He was on the set, I forget exactly, but at least a few weeks, and so he got a lot of eye witness stuff. Aside from that, probably better if I don’t say anything. SWNN: I was wondering if you ever, in talking with George, obviously before he sold the company to Disney, if he ever talked about his intentions for the Sequel Trilogy? You know, what his broad strokes would have been for the Skywalker saga, essentially. Rinzler: He did, but given how he’s said they didn’t really follow his ideas, it’s for him to say. Because the book has been delayed, I really don’t think I can talk about it

Vulture: John Boyega Praises His New co-star Kelly Marie Tran Boyega, being in Cannes accepting the Trophée Chopard award, sat down with Jada Yuan from Vulture for an interview about being recognizable, Tom Hardy, Kelly Marie Tran and more. VULTURE: How has your life changed since Episode VII? Can you walk around London? Yeah! I was in Duty Free a few hours ago. Really? What did you get? I got some socks because I forgot my socks, and some moisturizer. [Laughs.] So it’s been fine. I get stopped sometimes; sometimes I don’t. But, you know, with that being said, there are still two more Star Wars movies! There’s a woman in Episode VIII, Kelly Marie Tran, who’s going to be breaking barriers like you did in The Force Awakens. [Boyega beams and nods vigorously.] She’ll be the first Asian person to play a major Star Wars character, but no one knows anything about her. What can you tell us? What’s she like? I love her. I love her. I think she’s fantastic. But she’ll tell her own story. I feel it’s always weird or wrong for someone the world hasn’t met, for me to come and start talking about her. Not even to say what it’s like working with her? She’s great. She’s freaking great, and I love her. I freaking love her. She’s fantastic. Seriously. She’s changed a lot in terms of perspective on just chemistry and industry. She’s a real cool girl. I’ve heard a rumor, which you can refute, that Tom Hardy may have come on set to do a day as a Stormtrooper who slaps your ass. Who slaps my ass? Wow! Did Tom say that? You know, just like how Daniel Craig came on as a Stormtrooper last time Okay. Okay. Next time I go on set I’m going to release a helmet and see if Tom Hardy’s in there! Will you see movies in Cannes before you leave? I wish I could. I’m leaving tomorrow. What about at home — do you have any time to do anything other than play Finn? Oh, I go home and go to sleep. I. Go. To. Sleep! There is a lot more to this interview, be sure to check it out at vulture.com Related Posts: John Boyega: New ‘Star Wars’ Is ‘Darker, Bigger’ Than ‘Force Awakens’ Oscar Isaac

Star Wars: Episode VIII Cast Has Landed Belfast Telegraph: Film stars, including Mark Hamill who plays Luke Skywalker, Daisy Ridley (Rey) and Adam Diver (Kylo Ren) were snapped arriving at Belfast International Airport on Friday morning. Hamill waved and greeted fans at the airport, while both Ridley and Driver tried - in vain - to conceal their identities. Director Rian Johnson was also among the arrivals. The cast arrived ahead of filming which is to take place in Malin Head, Donegal over the weekend. The iconic Millennium Falcon has been under-construction at the Wild Atlantic Way for the past couple of days. Malin Head has been at the centre of the Star Wars universe over the week as preparations begun for filming in the area. Caravan Park owner, Ali Farren, told the Belfast Telegraph there was a lot of speculation in the area as to who would be appearing for filming. He said: “There’s been a lot of blacked-out limousines and coaches in the area, so we have no idea who is here - and you can’t get close. Go to the Belfast Telegraph for the full story and more pictures. Related Posts: Vulture: John Boyega Praises His New co-star Kelly Marie Tran SWNN

Oscar Isaac: Poe has a lot of love to give Collider met up with Oscar Isaac on the Global Fan Screening of X-Men: Apocalypse in London. They talked briefly about Star Wars: Episode VIII. Poe has a lot of love to give, says Isaac and Poe just did a very cool stunt in Pinewood. It’s good to know that Poe Dameron will see some action in Episode VIII, hopefully he will be more than just a pilot on a mission. Oscar also diplomatically dodged a JJ Abrams vs Rian Johnson question but other than that the interview was mainly about X-men. From Collider.com: During the red blue carpet premiere for London’s Global Fan Screening of Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse, Steve had a chance to chat with star Oscar Isaac. In decidedly more comfortable attire than his heavily made-up title character of Apocalypse, Isaac took a moment away from greeting the gathered X-fans to talk about his role in the film. He also happened to drop a little tidbit from another franchise film he’s in, a little picture by the name of Star Wars: Episode VIII. Go to collider.com for the full story and the video.
