insatiabletraveler: A buddha sits quietly in a tiny temple in Bagan—one of thousands in the area. The walls were covered with faded ancient frescoes and writing that could barely be read. The centuries had taken its toll. The buddha is not old. It’s a replica of the one that used to sit in that hallowed spot in front of the window. Its fate unknown to me. The fake was boldly painted in a shiny black, its skin a hue of bubblegum pink that was too garish for such a gentle place. It’s the reason I prefer this image in black and white. Still, I loved this temple. It was peaceful and full of stories I wished to hear. I wanted to transport myself back in time and see it at its beginning, vivid and full of life.
