Forest management can only be sustainable if it respects both the ecosystem and the people that depend on it. That is why we welcome the news that the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) showed its teeth and disassociated itself from Danzer Group after the timber multinational was linked to human rights violations in the Democratic Republic of Congo through one of its subsidiary logging companies: http://act.gp/1199wxr FSC is the only certification scheme that ensures forests are managed responsibly, but there is still work to be done. In the coming months, we’ll be highlighting their best practices and points for improvement, so stay tuned.
