Gender-affirming care for children could be considered “a new form of conversion therapy”, Kemi Badenoch has said.

The women and equalities minister made the claim as she confirmed plans to bring forward a bill to ban conversion practices, which seek to change or suppress someone’s sexual orientation or gender identity.

Dr. Jeanne Hoff, who became the first openly trans psychiatrist to work with trans patients, died on October 26. She was 85.

Democrats and LGBTQ+ groups are urging President Joe Biden’s administration to quickly finalize its proposed LGBTQ+-inclusive updates to Title IX, the federal law prohibiting sex discrimination in education. The updates, which would reinstate trans-inclusive policies, initially promised to finalize the updates in October.

Transgender youth will continue to have access to gender-affirming medical care, provided the veto survives an override early next year.

Georgia's health insurance for state employees now covers transition-related care under a settlement reached in a lawsuit by the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund.
