How often should we pray? The hours of prayer give believers in God an opportunity to “rejoice always” and to “pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). There are three hours of prayer: morning, noon, and evening. "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed." - Mark 1:35 David declared the times of prayer: “Evening and morning and at noon will I pray, and cry aloud, and he shall hear my voice” (Psalm 55:17). Daniel is famous for his faithful commemoration of these hours of prayer: “Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days” (Daniel 6:10). The hours of prayer were a continuing part of the lifestyle of the apostles: “Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour [3 p.m.]” (Acts 3:1); “Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour [12 noon]” (Acts 10:9); The importance of the hours of prayer, however, did not limit prayer and worship to those times, for David praised God “seven times a day” also (Psalm 119:164) John D.
