Carl Johnson took this great photo from Gates of the Arctic National Park. Here's what he had to say about it. "One of the best ways I have ever had the pleasure to get around in the Brooks Range backcountry was via dog sled. Here is my view a few springs ago on the North Fork of the Koyukuk River, with NPS Ranger Zak Richter at the helm."

Formes humaines

April 30th, 2014 Final poem A couple days ago while walking in manhattan I heard this heavy grunting ahead. I looked forward to see an older gentleman shuffling towards my direction. His face twisting as he swayed from side to side. The sidewalk cleared like Moses's Red Sea as he shuffled my way. "Death Awaits All" (Unfinished, Unedited) Waiting for death, that is my station. As I limp, waddle and grunt through an unaffectionate crowd, I read salty lips, avoiding me with their judging eyes. It is as if strolling through the book of Revelation; I see my image In each pupil, my life encapsulated in a blue, green, brown or black iris. An image captured, It defines me by my sin, the seven headed beast with ten horns is fixed within. Watching each lid shut Unveils my truth, my impending condemnation scribbled like morse code in every blink and twinkle, spread across each passing face like a constellation. It's there I read my horoscope, Realizing that it's through Each painstaking step pass an expectation, Each sigh, each waddle through a revulsion, That I am able to make it to my destination. There, I will see these faces again. At my station, only death waits for me. #whenlivingisaprotest
