Bread Ahead Bakery Course

As a birthday present for Mum, we went to Bread Ahead’s half day French baking class at Borough Market. It was one of the most fun classes I’ve had, very hands on and you get to take all the bread made in class. Everything was explained very clearly, including little tricks to make the bread better and common mistakes to avoid. I highly recommend it to everyone! Plus you get to stare at their famous donuts while making bread:)
For details, see their website
A few photos of us baking..

A.Wong - Dim Sum

I know I took a while to visit A.Wong, mostly because I kept hearing mixed reviews, some really like it, some not. Their dim sum is unlike any other in London, it’s modern and some dishes look nothing like the menu description, especially if you’ve tried the traditional version before and know how it should look. It’s not as satisfying as Princess Garden where a massive table worth of food can be ordered for very little money, which is what Chinese food is mostly known for, large portions and …

The Modern Pantry - Sunday Brunch

Sunday is the most relaxing time of the week, we can get up late for a peaceful brunch or go for a complete set of roast. On bright days when the sun is at least half visible, I love spending time at the Modern Pantry. The Georgian townhouse at Clerkenwell has tons of natural lighting shining on white tables spread across 3 floors. In summer, outside seating overlooks the square with lovely sunshine. There is a mixed sense of modern and home here, stairs squeak as you walk up but the relaxed …

Caravan Kings Cross - Weekend Brunch

I was worried the new Caravan at King’s Cross might be another over hyped place with average food and for people who just love to queue. But even with the high expectation that I had, the brunch dishes we sampled were incredibly easy to fall in love with. Even the simple avocado with olive oil on sourdough toast (from St John) looked inviting when it arrived on another table.
Before I talk about food, the queue has to be mentioned. We arrived at 12pm for Sunday brunch, which was served from 10am …

Chocolate master class at St James hotel + set lunch at Seven Park Place

Chocolate master class at St James hotel + set lunch at Seven Park Place
St James hotel hosts very interesting classes on weekends, such as chocolate, cheese & wine and cocktails master classes. My friend and I joined the Saturday chocolate class at 11am, where the chocolatiers from Melt talked through the basics of chocolate tempering and how to make ganache in the right consistency. The class was quite hands on, we made chocolate truffles, licked some chocolate ganache and painted our own …

HKK - Updated

In a nutshell: Hakkasan group does the best Chinese fine dining in London
Price: £95 for 15 course tasting menu
Cuisine: Chinese - fine dining
Rating: 5/5
HKK is aiming for their first Michelin star and I really hope they get it when the Michelin guide release next month. The food is consistently great, definitely some of the best Chinese food we’ll find in London. The cherry wood Peking duck has tons of flavour without oily texture, the dim sum trilogy is always tasty without the need for soy …

Kitchen W8 - Neighbourhood dining with one Michelin

In a nutshell: 1* Michelin and Kensington’s tucked away neighbourhood restaurant.
Rating: 4/5
Tucked away in a side street just off High Street Kensington, Kitchen W8 is co-owned by Philip Howard, who is the head chef at the Square with 2 Michelin stars. Despite of Kitchen W8’s one Michelin status, everything about the restaurant has a touch of local, neighbourhood feel. No tasting menu, no extravagant or crazy dishes. Instead for simpler food, simple cooking (relatively) and excellent …

Street food, Organic Cafe and Tapas

In a nutshell: places I’ve tried but not blogged - Mei Mei’s Jian Bing, Daylesford organic cafe and Brindisa tapas

Jian Bing at Mei Mei’s Street Cart
Rating: 3/5
Jian Bing is a street food in Beijing, sort of like Chinese savoury crepes. It actually originated in Tian Jing, a city very close to Beijing (Tian Jing people often say we ruined their original flavour, probably true). We often eat these pipping hot pancakes for breakfast on the way to school. Watch it spread on the pan, spread a mess of …

Kitchen Table @ Bubbledogs - Fitzrovia

In a nutshell: London’s must do restaurant in the fine dining category
Rating: 5/5
Price: £78 for 14 course tasting menu
Cuisine: Modern
Kitchen Table is one to fall in love with, for the wonderful food, for the lovely team and for their passion to source the very best ingredients. It’s one of those unforgettable experiences London has to offer and I can’t wait to return (as many times as possible). So before reading my lengthy review, just book it!
The restaurant
Not just an average, posh fine …
