Photo by @EnricSala | On March 21st, the government of Ecuador announced the creation of a marine sanctuary and 21 conservation areas in the Galápagos Islands, fully protecting a vibrant ecosystem that's home to the highest abundance of sharks on the planet. The new sanctuary will safeguard over 47,000 square kilometers of ocean — roughly one third of the waters around the archipelago — against fishing and other extractive industries such as mining and oil drilling. In December of 2015, National Geographic's Pristine Seas team of international scientists and filmmakers, in collaboration with the Galápagos National Park and the Darwin Research Station, surveyed and documented the waters around the islands. Here, a sea lion chases its fish prey off the coast of Isabela Island during the @natgeopristineseas expedition. #conservation #exploration #Galápagos #Ecuador #pristineseas #sharks

#LonelyPlanet writer and photographer, Phillip Tang (@mrtangtangtang), is currently on assignment in #Kāipíng, #China. Located 140km southwest of Guǎngzhōu, it is home to one of the most arresting human-constructed attractions. Pictured is one of the Unesco-crowned diāolóu (碉楼), eccentric watchtowers featuring a fusion of Eastern and Western architectural styles. Out of the approximately 3000 original diāolóu, only 1833 remain. (Photographer Twitter: @philliptang) #LPinChina #travel

Here’s something you don’t see everyday, except maybe if you live in Morocco. I’m honored to be included in this year's selected winners for American Photography 32, and hope these tree climbing goats enjoy a little limelight to go along with their argan nuts. Photo @chrisburkard // It is possible to find serenity for both body and mind? Those who travel Alberta’s plethora of gorgeous glacial lakes know there is a lot of tranquility to be found. Jasper National Park boasts some of the most beautiful scenery in North America from its majestic mountain peaks to its shimmering lakes, there is no shortage of visual stimulus. Experience one of their infamous glowing sunsets from a sleek kayak and sit in awe as the water beneath you mimics the skies brilliant colors. There really is no place like it.

You know that photo I posted earlier “Dragons are coming”? This is in the same area… this is the most populated city in the middle of those crazy karst mountains. This is Guilin! I usually stay in a smaller town about an hour away called Yangshuo.

When we arrived to Shenandoah National Park in February it was a frozen world. I had lived in the DC area (working at Nat Geo) for about eight years. For some reason, I had never explored the park in winter. But this road trip is a great chance to see all the parks in different seasons and we found that winter in Shenandoah was really amazing. In particular, we loved the frozen waterfalls, like this one (Dark Hollow Falls). Plus, we had the trails mostly to ourselves. Anytime is a good time to visit a national park Shenandoah National Park (9 of 59) Shot with FUJIFILM X-T1 and XF16-55mm F2.8 lens Photo by @jonathan_irish // Photographer and former Nat Geo staffer Jonathan Irish (@jonathan_irish) is on an epic road trip to visit and create incredible content in all of the 59 U.S. National Parks in 52 weeks during the centennial of the National Park Service. Happy #StPatricksDay! Do you know what year this photo of women gazing out from the high edge of #CliffsofMoher by Volkmar K. Wentzel was published in National Geographic magazine? The answer will be posted in the caption. #TBT #ThrowbackThursday #Ireland ANSWER: 1955

Photo by @andywcoleman // The crown jewel of the Coyote Buttes North Wilderness area near the Arizona/Utah border is a place known as the Wave. This area is restricted to only 20 permit holders a day and transports you to an otherworldly terrain. Getting there is not easy - it is a three mile hike across hilly, rocky and sandy desert. There are no facilities, so you need to bring a lot of water along with your camera gear. The effort is worth it, though, as you could spend the entire day photographing in and around this site. When we arrived, I wasn't really excited about this small patch of water in the channel heading to the main section of the wave, but @jonathan_irish convinced me to take a closer look at the reflection. @natgeocreative

Here’s a photo I took about 5 in the morning in Dubai after staying out all night taking photos. Rene and I found a building that was under construction and somehow got up to the top of it. I like how you can see a cross-section of that other building that is under construction.
