@travisburkephotography About the shot: We set out on a hike along the outskirts of San Diego. After climbing a few thousand feet, we made it to the top of the mountain a little before sunset. It was intimidating to walk out onto this rock for the first time and at some points it's only a few inches thick, but after a few good bounce tests we decided it was safe and set up our tent just in time to watch the sun go down. We stayed up that night to watch the city lights slowly illuminate the landscape below as the stars shined bright overhead. How the shot was captured

Last Ride

@travisburkephotography The Wave, Arizona. About the shot: Getting to this ancient sandstone formation is a bit like a treasure hunt, with no direct trail and only a map showing the natural landmarks to follow. After wandering for 3 miles in the desert, you walk into these incredible petrified sand dunes that were sculpted by wind and water during the Jurassic Age. If you know where to look you can even spot dinosaur footprints still preserved in the sand. How it was captured: The GoPro was low to the ground to capture the surface texture and set on 0.5 sec time-lapse mode while I walked around to give me a variety of images to chose from. #GoPro #arizona #Travel #Summer

This Hubble Space Telescope picture shows a galaxy named SBS 1415+437 (also called SDSS CGB 12067.1), located about 45 million light-years from Earth. SBS 1415+437 is a Wolf-Rayet galaxy, a type of star-bursting galaxy with an unusually high number of extremely hot and massive stars known as Wolf-Rayet stars. These stars can be around 20 times as massive as the sun, but seem to be on a mission to shed surplus mass as quickly as possible - they blast substantial winds of particles out into space, causing them to dwindle at a rapid rate. A typical star of this type can lose a mass equal to that of our sun in just 100,000 years! Image credit: ESA/Hubble & NASA #nasa hubble #hst #hubble25 #space #galaxy #astronomy #science

Photo by @shonephoto (Robbie Shone) - A glacier cave explorer descends into a fluted shaft deep inside a moulin within the Aletsch glacier. With a length of 23km (15 miles) and covering more than 120 square kilometres (43 square miles) the Aletsch glacier is the largest glacial system in the Alps.

"In the last few years, there's have been several photos that I've really wanted to capture for myself. A number of these have actually been in #Namibia and one of them was capturing the amazing-looking quiver trees (Kokerbooms) under the #MilkyWay." - Conor #travel #lonelyplanet #africa

Wow, huh? Just...wow. Our third image from @thefella (Conor MacNeill) for this week-end's #lpInstaTakeover. "I spent about 4 days exploring the temples of #Bagan (#Burma), of which there are over 2000. The bigger temples get quite busy during sunset and the one I was standing on, Shwesandaw, was one of the busiest. That said, I got here early and manage to secure the best spot to watch the setting sun." - Conor #lonelyplanet #travel
