Flipboard helps people discover, view and share content from across the web and social networks. With its visually stunning layout, Flipboard delivers a beautiful and easy way to quickly flip through all the stories, photos and updates you care about in a single place.
We use social media to grow your audience by sharing your content with Flipboard users, who then share it with their friends. Flipboard provides a platform for deep content engagement across a growing audience of social influencers and enthusiastic readers. Our readers make over 10 million social recommendations a month via the app to their friends.
The first step is to provide us with a Flipboard optimized RSS feed. People use Flipboard to search and discover content in a variety of formats, including RSS, Facebook, Google+, Tumblr, Instagram and more. Displaying full article content within the app is possible via optimized RSS, and we require this at a minimum before considering your content for promotion within our Content Guide. Details on optimizing your RSS feed can be found here.
Optimized RSS provides users with a superior reading experience and is much easier to maintain than your website’s HTML/CSS. See an example below of an article that hasn’t been optimized (on the left) and another that has (on the right).
Absolutely. Some publishers like to create Flipboard feeds that contain exclusive or expanded content not generally available on the web. You can create this feed just as you would a normal RSS feed but hide it from public view. We do not currently support RSS feeds that are password protected or require authentication.
Try sharing at least 10 items per day, or more if your content is news based. Be sure to include multimedia content as this significantly increases open rates.
Because our users are spread throughout the world there is no ‘best’ time to post. However, if your content is regionally focused then it’s best to share lightweight ‘grabby’ content during morning and afternoon commuting times and longer articles at night when users spend more time immersed in articles.
If you haven’t already done so you can email your optimized RSS feed to publishers@flipboard.com for review. Please also include your Twitter, Facebook and website details. We’ll be in touch within 5 business days to let you know the next steps.
Customized designs are currently being trialed with a handful of publishers (search for ‘BBC’ in Flipboard for an example). We hope to roll this out to all potential publishers shortly. We recommend you optimize your RSS feed as soon as possible if you wish to be considered for this program.
If you’re selected for inclusion in our Content Guide we’ll provide you with a custom landing page that you can link to from your site (such as http://flpbd.it/mike) as well as Flipboard site badges. You can also create web banners containing the Flipboard logo that link to your landing page. Logos, brand guidelines and example banners can be found at http://flipboard.com/advertisers.
Flipboard is compatible with MP4, YouTube and Vimeo video formats as well as MP3 and SoundCloud audio formats. Including multimedia content in your RSS feed is a great way to enhance the reading experience.
We believe advertising should be relevant, engaging and a way for brands to express themselves. We are piloting magazine style full-page advertising with a small group of publishers and hope to open the program to more publishers soon.
